Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Mikoto Onamuchi.

He's always been a very globally-oriented person, but he chose to retire to this remote location after his mother died, and he felt he needed time away from Japan to deal with it. And now his reality is melting. Or something. Yes. He is 47 years old, more than a little eccentric, but a nice guy.

Played by?: Yoshiki Hayashi.

Canon information

Character name and canon: Queen Semiramis
Character background: Semiramis is the daughter of a goddess (Atargatis, a vague version of Ishtar, a purported "maiden goddess", so...that was awkward for her reputation, yes) and a mortal man; her mother was so embarrassed to have fallen for a mortal she abandoned Semiramis at birth and threw herself into the ocean/turned into a dove depending on who you ask. Mommy is not a big part of Semiramis's life, except for how her absence is defining. Raised by horse traders, Semiramis became quite the little warrior, utilizing her unusual nature for the sake of her adoptive tribe. She married young, and when the Assyrian king attempted to crush the horse tribes under his thumb, they fought back.

In the process, Semiramis was noticed in battle, as the lone woman, and one who was suspected to be a supernatural being, at that. The king, having conquered her tribe, declared her marriage invalid and took her for himself, causing her first husband to commit suicide. She subsequently became his first and only wife, the apple of his eye, and his primary advisor. Her military prowess allowed him to conquer many countries in the surrounding area, though his tactical planning was becoming increasingly shaky. He was more obsessed with his seductive young wife than with success for his kingdom.

Semiramis hated him. Passionately. But she needed him, at least until they had an heir--or a supposed heir. The child she bore by him was not his by blood, rather the product of an affair (she never saw fit to inform the biological father of her daughter, either, because she didn't want him interfering), but he didn't need to know that. When he allowed her to play "ruler for a day," playfully indulging her whims, she chopped off his motherfucking head and usurped the throne, citing her child as its future claimant.

It was not a popular move, but the nobility grew to respect her, even if most of them didn't like her at all, viewing her as an upstart and a sorceress who had bewitched their king with her ~wiles~. She assembled her own personal court of handmaidens and women who worked for her, instated laws that said men who hurt their wives would be castrated, and oh, yeah, took over an entire continent (Asia), as well as parts of another (Africa). It is not really clear whether she's the villain of her piece or the heroine, honestly, but she is one hell of a military strategist, and she really likes power.
Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Nyla Spencer
Voidville background: Nyla is the trophy wife of the former mayor, who is now deceased. She used to work in a seedy rock club/bar, but met her husband young, married him, had a little daughter (now six) by him, and then he died. As with her other incarnation, her daughter is actually the product of an affair, and she is very much still about conquest and husband-killing, secretly. She is kind of terrifying, albeit very polite, and has a lot of employees who are quite loyal to her because of her tendency to pick people out of the gutter, improve their circumstances, and foster devotion that way.

Canon information

Character name and canon: Wendy Moira Angela Darling (Captain); Peter Pan.

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Gwendolyn Barrie

Voidville background: Gwendolyn Barrie is a playwright and theatre director currently in the midst of a contentious and expensive divorce from her leading lady, [TINKERBELL]. She's been in Voidville for only a few months, having left New York in a swirl of rumours and scandal because why not, and is working on a new play in between arguing up and down why her ex-wife shouldn't get any of her profits from the last ones.

Played by?: Rachel McAdams (from Passion for the modern take and Sherlock Holmes for the fairytale).

Character name and canon: Lady Sif from MCU, with headcanon mixed in to flesh out her six minutes of screen time.
Character background: Goddess of war. One of Asgard's foremost warriors, companion of Thor and Loki (and the Three but I was feeling like I'd said 'war' too many times already).

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Steph(anie) Ericson
Voidville background: Steph has been in Voidville a while, and a police officer about as long, now a detective. She's known to be tough but fair in her work, with an interest less in strict law enforcement than common sense, the safety of the town's citizens, and justice (as determined by her, of course). Not necessarily in that order. Friendly and fairly outgoing otherwise, but on the reserved side when it comes to less shallow interactions. Can probably fix your motorcycle.

Character background: Here we go. I am taking him from when he is inevitably swallowed by the crocodile.

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Jack Eton
Voidville background: A widower who has the kind of shady background where shadiness is just another layer of mystery over the mystery that permeates this place, but rumour is that he lost his family in an accident a long time ago, maybe there was a kid. He has been to prison for theft/assault when he was younger and spends a lot of time drinking and punching people anyway.

He's an okay guy, though, willingly gets along with people, just doesn't have a lot of friends and might express himself by breaking a window. Has been in Voidville for a while, possibly even a native, though hasn't always been here. He doesn't have any set occupation -- he can fix things, and do gardening, and lift heavy objects. He possesses a smallish fishing boat called The Jolly Roger.

He is remarkably well read.

Voidville background: Having lived in Voidville all his life, Donald only briefly left to attend med school elsewhere and came back to work at the local hospital. He was typically kind of an idiot (drinking, partying, fucking around, AND SUCH) but has calmed down a bit as he's grown up and is actually an unironic participant in community things, like helping out with school fairs or volunteering for stuff and. Canon information

Character name and canon: Rapunzel
Character background: Rapunzel is a peasant (half) Romani girl trapped in a tower by a sorcerer/sorceress (left open in case someone wants to app a character who does these things) who basically stole her from her parents when her father was caught stealing from the spellcaster's garden. She was not walled up all her life, but rather at the age of about twelve, when adolescence hit her; she served as kind of a surrogate child for her captor, though it was a really screwed up pseudo-parental relationship where she was controlled for quite a while. Her captor even dyed her hair blonde so that if her real parents ever saw her in the window, they wouldn't realize who she was. "Rapunzel" is a nickname from the townspeople who'd heard of her because it was the name of the tower she was in, and her first name is indeed Celina.

In her mid-teens, a prince happens upon her tower, is enchanted by her singing voice, and climbs up on a rope fashioned out of strands of her magic hair and silk curtains. As in the original version of this story, their relationship is not an innocent one! Her captor is furious when she becomes pregnant, and kills many of the young men in the area out of misguided parental protectiveness, but the young prince manages to escape. Rapunzel flees using a new magic rope she wove when she becomes pregnant the second time, not knowing her captor has tracked down her prince and blinded him. She struggled with two children, searching for him, and seemed to have found him when the curse hit.

Also, it seems that her weaving/sewing is ~magical, as are her tears, but the No Happy Endings curse hit before she could get to the magic healing tears part. :')

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Celina Gorecki
Voidville background: Celina is a very young (well, she's about twenty-three, but her oldest is seven and her younger kid is is four, so you do the math) single mother from the wrong side of the tracks. Nobody knows who the father of her two kids is, which means there's a lot of unpleasant small-town gossip, and she works two jobs, one in a diner, one part-time in the seedy local bar. She never has a lot of money but is usually pretty sweet, albeit not all fairytale innocence and moon eyes, either. She's known for having a lot of associations with the wrong sort, but she treats everyone the same, regardless of who they are.

Her hair is pretty darn long.

(ALSO SHE WAS BORN IN MANCHESTER, she probably came here at about 12 and retains the accent.)

Canon information

Character name and canon: Martel / The Elenium
Character background: As a Knight of the Church, Martel was a brother-in-arms to Sir Sparhawk, a man who would be closer than blood to him even when they ultimately stood on opposite sides of a line Martel himself drew in the sand.

Martel was born the only son of a wealthy noble family in Elenia, but his blood relatives proved to be largely meaningless to him in the grand scheme of his life; fondly but distantly remembered, his father Lord Romiar, Margrave of Damerel, and his mother an Arcian noblewoman, Lady Veleda (note: details regarding his family beyond ‘rich as shit’ and ‘highly ranked’ are largely headcanon, extrapolated by necessity for a fuller background). He joined the Pandion Order at the traditionally young age, and had he not taken the path he did, he would have come through one of the finest knights they'd seen in their ranks, set to marry well and likely on his way towards the rank of Lord Preceptor. An expert swordsman and handy with a lance, Martel was a brilliant warrior, tactician and sorcerer (as tutored in the secrets of Styricum by the Pandion tutor in the arts, Lady Sephrenia).

It was, she would later say, in part his downfall.

Too clever for anyone's good and too ambitious by half, Martel sought instruction in the forbidden secrets; when Sephrenia refused him, he went looking elsewhere. His family's money, recently inherited, was more than enough to get him what he wanted - at least in the short term. He'd been chosen by the Styric sorcerer Zalasta to act as the opposite number of Anakha, and it was his own ambition that screwed him over. For the forbidden magic and the murder of several Pandion Knights who'd been sent to apprehend him, Martel was forcibly expelled from the Order and stripped of as much of his power as the Younger Gods could take.

Having effectively cut all the ties that meant anything to him, Martel went away from Elenia weeping and swearing revenge - revenge that, as the best and most well-connected mercenary in Eosia, he would spend more than a decade working to get. He aligned himself with Otha of Zemoch in order to get his shot at vengeance on the Pandions in general and Sparhawk in particular, which brought him an uneasy alliance with the corrupt churchman Annias, the incestuous Princess Arissa (sister of the late Elenian King and aunt of his successor, Queen Ehlana), everybody’s favourite alcoholic Krager and an assortment of other charming individuals that he collectively disdained as disgusting human beings. (He wasn’t actually wrong, he was just also a monstrous hypocrite.) Though it took months to become clear, Martel was likely the highest ranked of the conspirators under the dark elder god Azash, acting as tactician, general and cracker of whips. ...or was he, see: The Tamuli for the aforementioned revelations that Martel had been manipulated by Zalasta all along.

(Unfortunately for his repressed conscience, Zalasta never actually forced him into anything; he manipulated the circumstances and counted on Martel’s hubris to do the work for him. It did. Martel, while deeply ashamed, is almost physically incapable of backing down once he’s set himself to something; he considered the bed he’d made for himself and reworked himself into the best of self-made faux-sociopath bastards.)

In short, he sparked a religious and civil war in the Elene countries, intent on subverting the Church of Chyrellos from the inside out, subjugating the continent beneath the heel of the soon-to-be-released-from-his-hideous-captivity god Azash, which would be followed, of course, by setting himself up as Emperor of Basically Everything while Annias ruled the new church and Azash...horrified everyone. His obsession with the loved ones he’d driven away from him (though he preferred to think of it as him having been rejected, which was and was not quite accurate) was constant, but unfortunately meant in several cases that he repeatedly tried to murder them.

He didn't win, of course; plots were twisted, secrets were kept and revealed, Sparhawk prevailed and Martel, his brother's sword through his chest, drowned in his own blood on the floor of a dark temple, his head in his mother's lap. Death ultimately came as a welcome mercy from continuing to live with himself.

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Benoit Lefevre (REAL FRENCH PEOPLE ARE NAMED THAT, CLAIRE)
Voidville background: Benoit Lefevre, despite the painfully French name, was born and raised in England; he left under a cloud of dubiously legal and ethical business and personal practises, with his best friend's girlfriend, Lilia Gallo! They were married shortly after, but he discovered her infidelities when she was pregnant with their daughter, and an angry, ugly divorce followed. He now has sole custody of one Milagros Lefevre, a very serious little girl of mixed race (white/afro-latina) and decided temperament (angry). He moved here a few years ago as somewhere quieter to raise his daughter.

Played by?: Timothy Dalton, tho I might have a fit and change it later.

Canon information

Character name and canon: Peter Pan from Peter Pan
Character background: Petey as JM Barrie wrote him basically but I will go with the 2003 film starring Sumpter and Isaacs a lot too. Peter Pan was a child forever, brash, vain, violent, and generous, with the memory of a guppy. He could fly, mimic a lot of odd sounds, and could do-- and perhaps even create anything he wanted. Tinkerbell was his best friend and his mother and Wendy were the only women he loved, which is only a little creepy. Whenever he left Neverland, winter iced over everything.

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Patrick Penn
Voidville background: On paper, he is a C-average community college student, adopted. Formerly also on paper, he was shipped off the island to juvenile detention a handful of times earlier in his youth, once for fire-setting, and the other for accusations of kidnapping, compounded by a few fistfights and petty thefts; the records were since sealed. Granted, in a town as small as this one, that only matters so much. For all that his records suggest he is a generically troubled young man, lacking in motivation, ambition, and kindness, he was known to be affable in person. He tends to parade his moodswings around like a joke rather than a genuine threat.

Played by?: I THINK I'll go with Sumpter.

Canon information

Character name and canon: Sir Kay
Character background: Hahaha canon for Arthuriana is kind of a big mess, but this version is mainly Malory-inspired with a dash of White's Once and Future King in his childhood. (Wikipedia.) He's taken from Camelot's heyday; he serves as Arthur's steward, gives young knights a hardy time, and is generally gruff but loyal. If you would like more words, bother me for them and I will be happy to expand.

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Gabriel Yates
Voidville background: Gabriel is a CPA specializing in high-net-worth clients and their tax affairs (trusts, private foundations, etc.) When it's not tax season, he also does some bookkeeping work. He is sardonic and a bit dry in his personal life, but not a loner; after work, he tends to hit the bars. (He is a wizard at pub trivia, decent at darts, but will not do karaoke under any circumstances.) That said, it takes him a very long time to actually trust anyone.

Canon information

Character name and canon: Xas from The Vintner's Luck & The Angel's Cut.
Character background: Xas is an angel in the literal Judeo-Christian mythology sense, from the lowest (and least bizarre-looking) of the nine orders of celestial beings who reside in a physical world adjoining Earth. They have their own cities, language, and government, and a very martial culture. God discovered Earth rather than created it. The angelic hierarchy, though, he did create, and angels and archangels in particular are an imperfect effort at replicating humans, whose souls he collects, a little bit like a hobbyist pinning butterflies to a board. It's creepy.

For his part, Xas is a preemptive copy of Christ, because God is not actually all-powerful or all-knowing and he needed a trial run to see how things would go if they didn't go as planned. Brief answer: not well!

Xas isn't and never has been technically a fallen angel, but since the nightmarishly bloody hundred-year war in Heaven ended, Xas's home has been primarily Hell. (God and Lucifer worked out a sort of treaty/joint custody agreement to let him travel freely, but his attempts to visit Heaven never ended well.) Since the late 1800s, however, Xas has been grounded on Earth: Michael tried to literally rip his heart out and Lucifer stepped in to save him, but then Lucifer also cut off his wings—not for anything Xas has done, but because bigger things were at play and Lucifer wanted to prove a point to God—and left him with his human friends.

His canon point would be November 1941, at which point he hasn't come to peace with God and Lucifer, exactly, for the whole trapped-on-Earth thing, but he's also no longer sulking like a sullen child. Legally, he's the father of his deceased friend's two-year-old daughter. He also entered the U.S. using the papers of a German military veteran and never obtained U.S. citizenship, so in about a month things are going to start going south for him. But not yet.

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Christoph Hintersee
Voidville background: Chris is twenty-three year old single father, most often employed as a gardener. He has a lot of hobbies and has a reputation for being chatty and easily distracted; only the first part is accurate. He can be freakily focused and patient when he wants to be. He came to Voidville at 16 after violently falling out with his family. He has scars and nightmares and he doesn't like to talk about it. (Christoph Hintersee isn't his real name even by Voidville's standards of realness, but he does speak fluent German, among other things, should anyone question it.) He absconded with enough money with that it's okay that he doesn't always have steady work, as long as he's careful. He ended up renting a room from a now-deceased woman in her thirties, who became his best friend. Two and a half years ago she had a child. Alison isn't biologically Chris's, but Flora knew she was dying and also knew she didn't want Alison's father to have anything to do with her, so that's not what the birth certificate says. Flora died when Alison was six months old, and Chris has been raising her in Flora's house ever since. He's a very well-meaning dad, but not always a very good one, because he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing.

Played by?: Rami Malek.

Canon information

Character name and canon: Udea (from The Seven Ravens, although there are approximately THIRTY MILLION different titles for the versions of this story)
Character background: This is a story with so many variations that it has TWO ENTRIES in the fairytale archetypes book, but in this case: a young woman looking for her missing seven brothers, who have been turned into ravens/sent away by their wicked aunt, who apparently favored Udea because nothing bad happened to her, just the boys. Udea sets out on a quest that involves befriending dwarves, climbing glass mountains, talking to the sun, moon, and stars, and nearly getting burnt at the stake for witchcraft, which sucked, for the record, but it's left ambiguous as to whether the charges are actually maybe true. The guy who tried to have her burnt at the stake was also her love interest/the king pursuing her as she traveled through his kingdom, which is. Probably not healthy.

But none of that matters, because before she could free her brothers OR get executed, Voidville happened. She and her brothers are all there, but they don't know each other or have the same surnames, because we like being mean.

Voidville information

Character's Voidville name: Serra Seveigne
Voidville background: A twenty-one-year-old local photography student. She's always looking for something, investigating something, traipsing around in the woods. An amiable but smart-mouthed girl, a bit of a flirt, something of a troublemaker, people say; when she sets her mind to something, she is very determined. People who know her really well make Grown Up Nancy Drew jokes about her sometimes because she really is always searching, and in the process will end up in the midst of quite a few other mysteries that aren't her personal one.

Played by?: Jessica Lucas
