Canon information
Character name and canon: Queen Semiramis Character background: Semiramis is the daughter of a goddess (Atargatis, a vague version of Ishtar, a purported "maiden goddess", so...that was awkward for her reputation, yes) and a mortal man; her mother was so embarrassed to have fallen for a mortal she abandoned Semiramis at birth and threw herself into the ocean/turned into a dove depending on who you ask. Mommy is not a big part of Semiramis's life, except for how her absence is defining. Raised by horse traders, Semiramis became quite the little warrior, utilizing her unusual nature for the sake of her adoptive tribe. She married young, and when the Assyrian king attempted to crush the horse tribes under his thumb, they fought back.
In the process, Semiramis was noticed in battle, as the lone woman, and one who was suspected to be a supernatural being, at that. The king, having conquered her tribe, declared her marriage invalid and took her for himself, causing her first husband to commit suicide. She subsequently became his first and only wife, the apple of his eye, and his primary advisor. Her military prowess allowed him to conquer many countries in the surrounding area, though his tactical planning was becoming increasingly shaky. He was more obsessed with his seductive young wife than with success for his kingdom.
Semiramis hated him. Passionately. But she needed him, at least until they had an heir--or a supposed heir. The child she bore by him was not his by blood, rather the product of an affair (she never saw fit to inform the biological father of her daughter, either, because she didn't want him interfering), but he didn't need to know that. When he allowed her to play "ruler for a day," playfully indulging her whims, she chopped off his motherfucking head and usurped the throne, citing her child as its future claimant.
It was not a popular move, but the nobility grew to respect her, even if most of them didn't like her at all, viewing her as an upstart and a sorceress who had bewitched their king with her ~wiles~. She assembled her own personal court of handmaidens and women who worked for her, instated laws that said men who hurt their wives would be castrated, and oh, yeah, took over an entire continent (Asia), as well as parts of another (Africa). It is not really clear whether she's the villain of her piece or the heroine, honestly, but she is one hell of a military strategist, and she really likes power. Voidville information
Character's Voidville name: Nyla Spencer Voidville background: Nyla is the trophy wife of the former mayor, who is now deceased. She used to work in a seedy rock club/bar, but met her husband young, married him, had a little daughter (now six) by him, and then he died. As with her other incarnation, her daughter is actually the product of an affair, and she is very much still about conquest and husband-killing, secretly. She is kind of terrifying, albeit very polite, and has a lot of employees who are quite loyal to her because of her tendency to pick people out of the gutter, improve their circumstances, and foster devotion that way.
